An Invitation to the Faithful of the Diocese

We have been hard at work in recent months, crafting an event that can serve as the backbone of an excellent family vacation. How does spending 3-4 nights in a historic port city (close to the beach and accented by morning or evening worship services with scores of other like-minded Orthodox Christians) sound? Forget about the business meetings that the official delegates (and your clergy!) will be attending, and spend your free time sight-seeing or enjoying the sun. For good measure, throw in a bluegrass and BBQ reception at a historic, southern mansion and a banquet with entertainment and a top-notch speaker. Attend morning or evening services, and experience the joy of worshiping with hundreds of other voices. Register your chidren, ages 7-18, for the youth program, and enjoy some peace and quiet on the river or at the beach while they learn about their faith. You can be certain that they will be having memorable and fun times with other, Orthodox Christian kids their age.  This is why you should plan to attend the DOS Assembly this year!

We have gone out of our way to make the week family friendly, with ...

  • An excellent location that is ideal for leisure and fun - you have adventure and history at your doorstep in Wilmington.
  • A comprehensive youth program led by the folks from Youth Equipped to Serve (YES) and Father John Cox, who has a passion for inspiring youth in their faith. In addition to hands on ministry, there will be recreation and teaching components to the program.
  • A keynote speaker (Sister Vassa) who inspires and encourages the faithful worldwide with her dynamic, internet teaching ministry.
  • The flexibility for attendees to register for events "a la carte", and to attend events/functions at their leisure.
  • Opportunities for families to have a meaningful faith experience in the midst of a summer vacation.

We hope that you will spend some time on this site, learning about the conference. Download and print the conference bulletin insert, and spread the word at your parish. Review your family schedule, and make plans to celebrate our life in Christ together this summer. It is our pleasure to be your hosts!

Sincerely, in Christ,
